Sausage pizza

Here's a basic recipe for making a delicious sausage pizza at home:

Ingredients:

For the Pizza Dough:

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Pizza Toppings:

  • 1/2 pound (about 225 grams) Italian sausage, crumbled and cooked
  • 1 ½ cups pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pizza Dough:

a. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

b. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

c. Stir until the dough comes together, then knead it on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour.

d. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

2. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.

3. Shape the Pizza:

a. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions if you want to make two medium-sized pizzas or leave it whole for a large pizza.

b. Roll out each portion of dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. If you have a pizza peel or an inverted baking sheet, you can assemble the pizza on it for easy transfer to the oven.

4. Assemble the Pizza:

a. Place the rolled-out dough on a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

b. Spread half of the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.

c. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.

d. Add half of the cooked sausage on top of the cheese.

5. Bake the Pizza:

a. Carefully slide the pizza (still on the parchment paper if you're using it) onto the preheated pizza stone or onto a baking sheet if you're not using a stone.

b. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

c. If you like a little heat, sprinkle some red pepper flakes over the pizza during the last minute of baking.

6. Finish and Serve:

a. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two.

b. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.

c. Slice and serve your delicious homemade sausage pizza!

Repeat the process for the second portion of dough if you're making two pizzas. Enjoy your homemade sausage pizza!
