Mutton keema
Mutton keema, also known as mutton qeema, is a flavorful Indian dish made from ground mutton (lamb or goat meat). It's a versatile dish that can be used in various preparations like keema curry, keema pav, keema samosa, and more. Here's a basic recipe for mutton keema curry:
Ingredients:
For the Keema:
- 500 grams of mutton keema (ground mutton)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1/2 cup tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped for garnish
For Garnish:
- Fresh coriander leaves
- Sliced onions
- Lemon wedges
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and ginger and continue to sauté for another 2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Add the green chilies and sauté for a minute.
- Add the finely chopped tomatoes, along with a pinch of salt, to help them cook faster. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and the oil starts to separate from the masala.
- Now, add the spices - turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook the masala for a few more minutes until it becomes aromatic and the oil starts to separate.
- Add the mutton keema (ground mutton) to the pan. Break it up and mix it well with the masala. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mutton keema changes color and begins to brown.
- Add about 1/2 cup of water to the keema, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally and add more water if needed to prevent sticking and ensure the keema cooks evenly.
- Once the mutton keema is cooked through and the oil has separated from the masala, add garam masala powder and mix well.
- Garnish the mutton keema with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan, roti, rice, or as desired.
You can adjust the spice levels and consistency of the keema curry according to your taste by adding more or less chili powder and water. Enjoy your delicious homemade mutton keema!
